Hizbullah reveals that military personnel joined Saharan

Former military personnel were involved with Easter Sunday Suicide bomber Saharan Hashim’s group, said former Eastern Province Governor M.L.A.M. Hizbullah.

He said this yesterday (13) giving evidence before the special parliamentary select committee appointed to investigate the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

According to Hizbullah, although no one knows the background of Sainthamarudu suicide bomber Niyaz, it was clear that he had dealings with the military.

“We don’t know if its intelligence, but he had minor dealings with them. This was evident due to him associating with the military.

In 2015 Saharan worked for President

The former Eastern Governor said that during the Presidential election, Saharan had worked for the current President Maithripala Sirisena.

“During the previous Presidential election he worked entirely against us. I worked for Mahinda Rajapaksa. He used all the mosques for his work.”

He accepted that at the time he gave leadership to all UPFA candidates.

Music led to rift between Hizbullah and Saharan

Hizbullah further revealed that as he had used music during the 2015 election campaign Saharan had been against him.

“During the election campaign since we used music, he went against us and I lost the election. I lost around 2000 votes and was defeated by around 121 votes to the SLMC. Then the President put me on the National List,” he said.

When he was appointed through the national list, he said Saharan had launched a massive protest campaign against him.

The former Governor also revealed that subsequent to a warrant being issued against him, Saharan had fled the area in March 2017.
