UP: Father stabs minor daughter repeatedly to stop her from studying
A minor girl from Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh was stabbed repeatedly as she did not want to get married and continue with her studies.
The 15-year-old girl told ANI that her father took her to a desolate place near a canal and he was joined by her brother.
"While my brother restrained me with a cloth on the neck, my father repeatedly slashed at me from behind with a knife. I begged him to stop but he did not. He wanted me to stop my studies and get married instead," she said.
After stabbing her repeatedly, her father and brother pushed her into the canal. While the father later came back to check whether she was alive later, the girl had managed to swim further away to avoid being detected.
The teen's claim was verified by her brother-in-law, who added that he kept her with his family because her parents wanted to marry her off.
"I am the husband of her sister. She had been living with us for two months. Her parents do not want her to continue her studies. They wanted to marry her off. Just a couple of days before they had taken her from my house. Today I got a call that she had been found near a canal," her brother-in-law told.
As of now, the police is looking into the allegations levelled by the minor girl against her father and brother. The matter is currently under investigation, said senior police officer Dinesh Tripathi.
"We have taken the statement of the girl and are looking into all the angles. Strictest action will be taken on the basis of the evidence which comes out," he said.
