Dayasiri reveals why Taj bomber didn’t detonate explosives

It is definitely clear that there was some international hand behind the Easter Sunday bombings, said the SLFP General Secretary MP Dayasiri Jayasekara joining the Derana 360 programme.

He said the suicide bomber did not detonate his suicide jacket perhaps due to those within the hotel.

Dayasiri’s views are as follows :

Today is a decisive day for the parliamentary select committee appointed to investigate the Easter Sunday suicide attacks, according to internal sources.

The reason being that its Chairman, Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri and the parliamentary select committee members are scheduled to meet Speaker Karu Jayasuriya for a special discussion.

As the initial part of the investigation, several persons have been summoned before the committee for questioning.

Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena had earlier stated that he would not allow any active service official to be summoned before the committee, adding that he would take on their responsibility.

However, with these orders, the future activities of this committee is in jeopardy. Another reason is that there are five cases before the courts pertaining to the Easter Sunday attacks.

Therefore, attention has been focussed on suspending the proceedings of this committee without a final report until all court cases are completed.

The above sources stated that once the court procedures are completed, the committee would recommence its activities.

However, the parliament select committee is scheduled to meet with the Speaker today and discuss at length the future action that should be taken in this regard.

Will the Kattankudy OICs come today?

Meanwhile, the former Kattankudy OIC and the current OIC had been summoned before the special parliament select committee today, but until last night they had not confirmed their attendance.

The reason being that they had not received the approval of the IGP so far.

The Police Department falls under the Law and Order Ministry and this ministry is held by the President.
