Stalin leads DMK protest in Chennai against water crisis

 Holding aloft a plastic pot which had the slogan in Tamil, ‘Kudam Inge, Thanneer Enge?’ (pot is here, where is the water?), Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly and DMK president M K Stalin is leading a protest rally here at Chepauk now.

Speaking to the teeming audience of DMK cadres, many of whom carried similar pots, Stalin said the protest was being held as Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami seemed unaware of the water crisis in the city / State. It was to draw his attention to the problem.

He charged that Municipal Administration Minister Velumani was stating contrary to truth that there was no water scarcity in the city. At the same, the rulers were asking schools and hotels not to shut down. He said IT companies were asking their staff to work from home owing to the water crisis.

Stalin said the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister do not seem to care about the crisis and are in denial.

He said he was not against performing a yagam for rain, but faulted that adequate precautionary measures had not been taken to tackle the crisis.  He made a snide remark that the yagam must have been performed by the rulers to secure their seats.

The DMK president said it was the combined water schemes that were implemented by his party during its tenure that was helping the present government.

Central Chennai MP Dayanidhi Maran and Tamilnadu MLA J Anbazhagan were among those who participated in the protest this morning.
