FR petition filed against Gnanasara Thera's release

Sandya Eknaligoda, the wife of missing journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda, has filed a Fundamental Rights petition before the Supreme Court challenging the release of venerable Galagodaththe Gnanasara Thera on Presidential Pardon.
Sandya Eknaligoda through her petition claims the release of an individual found guilty of Contempt of Court under presidential pardon is in violation of the Constitution.
Jaffnazone Court correspondent said Eknaligoda through her petition requested Court to overturn the decision to release Galagodaththe Gnanasara Thera on pardon and to investigate the relevant documents pertaining to the release.
Eight individuals including the Attorney General, Minister of Justice, Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara, the Acting IGP Chandana Wickremeratne and the Superintendent of Police in charge of the Welikada Prison have been cited as respondents.
