Dual citizenship for another 810: but no contesting elections

Another 810 Sri Lankans residing overseas would receive their dual citizenship today (25), said the Acting Controller of Immigration and Emigration Prasanna Ratnayake.
He said the ceremony would take place under the patronage of Minister Vajira Abaywardena.
Under this programme which was initiated in 2015, so far 3,700 persons have received dual citizenship.
Another large number of overseas residents have applied for dual citizenship and Sri Lankans residing overseas would get the opportunity to invest in Sri Lanka, construct houses and many other privileges.
However, the Controller of Immigration and Emigration said that this does not provide the opportunity for such persons to contest any election.
