Three more arrested in honour killing case in TN
Days after a couple was hacked to death by the man’s brother in a suspected honour killing in Mettupalayam, the police yesterday arrested three people in connection to the case.
According to media reports, Kanagaraj (22) was in a relationship with a Dalit girl. They had planned to tie the knot with their parents’ blessings on 25 June.
However, his brother Vinod Kumar did not approve of his brother loving a Dalit girl. On 26 June, he saw his brother and the girl together at Mettupalayam. Angered by this, Vinod approached and scolded them. Then he took out a sickle and hacked his brother to death and injured the girl and fled away.
While his brother died on the spot, the woman who had serious cut injuries was hospitalised. She succumbed to injuries on Saturday.
Even as the police launched a hunt for him, Kumar surrendered before the local police yesterday. The girl’s parents and relatives have reportedly demanded the arrest of others involved in the crime and refused to accept the body after postmortem at the hospital.
