Pujith Jayasundara & Hemasiri Fernando arrested

Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara and Former Secretary of Defence Hemasiri Fernando have been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department
Police Media Spokesman Superintendent of Police Ruwan Gunasekara said former Defence Secretary Fernando was arrested by the CID while receiving treatment at the Colombo General Hospital.
IGP Pujith Jayasundara, who was sent on compulsory leave, was arrested by the CID while being treated for an ailment at the Police Hospital.
IGP Pujith Jayasundara and Former Secretary of Defence Hemasiri Fernando were summoned to appear before the CID today.
However Hemasiri Fernando was admitted to the Cardiology Unit at the Colombo National Hospital today while IGP Pujith Jayasundara was admitted to the Police Hospital after suddenly taking ill today.
Attorney General Dappula de Livera on the 27th of June issued directives to Acting Inspector General of Police Chandana Wickremeratne to name IGP Pujith Jayasundara and Former Secretary of Defence Hemasiri Fernando as persons of interest for failing to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks.
The CID is conducting a criminal investigation over the Easter Sunday attacks and the persons of interest are to be charged under the criminal code.
