President's security under the microscope

The President's Security Division is to re-evaluate the security provided to the Head of State, after President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday claimed that he had received death threats amidst the on-going anti-narcotic drive.
In a startling revelation, President Sirisena yesterday claimed that he had received death threats amidst the programme to eradicate narcotics.
However the President said the public is of the stance that the highest possible punishment should be meted out on drug traffickers.
According to Police Media Spokesperson Superintendent of Police Ruwan Gunasekara, following the intelligence report, the President's Security Division has decided to revisit the security provided to President Sirisena.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Police Headquarters, Police Spokesperson SP Gunasekara said special attention has been given to threats levelled at VVIPs.
He added that the President's Security Division will continue to monitor intelligence reports and take appropriate action.
