SC prevents death penalty being enforced till 30th October

The Supreme Court today issued an order preventing the death penalty from being enforced till the 30 of October.

The order was issued by a three member bench.The order was issued when a fundamental rights petition filed by a convict on death row, was taken up for hearing today.

Eleven fundamental rights petitions have been filed before the Supreme Court thus far against President Maithripala Sirisena’s decision to enforce the death penalty on four selected inmates who have been sentenced to death.
