SLFP confused over certain SLPP claims

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party has expressed concern over statements made by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, amidst the backdrop of inconclusive discussions between the two parties towards forming a joint alliance.

United Peoples Freedom Alliance General Secretary Parliamentarian Mahinda Amaraweera recently claimed that if the alliance is formed, an agreement was reached that it would be named the ‘Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Peramuna’. However speaking at a media briefing held yesterday MP Shehan Semasinghe claimed no such agreement over the name has been reached thus far.

MP Semasinghe had claimed that MP Dullas Alahapperuma who attends discussions between the two parties as a representative of the SLPP also confirmed that no such agreement was reached.

The former General Secretary of the SLFP Professor Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa confirmed discussions are progressing and are inching closer to a positive outcome, however commenting that it is odd anyone believe otherwise.

Piyadasa said the SLFP view the discussions as positive and the party intend to carry the talks forward, adding during discussions the name ‘Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Peramuna’ was viewed favourably.
