48 hour postal service strike from 4pm today

The Joint Postal Trade Unions Front says its members will launch a 48-hour token strike from 4pm today.Speaking to  JaffnaZone.com convener Chinthaka Bandara said the strike will be launched based on three demands.

The convener stated postal employees had withdrawn from services for 16 days, from the 11th to the 27th of June in 2018 based on several demands including concerns of employees.

He noted the Postal Services Ministry had compiled a cabinet paper to address the demands of employees, but it had not been approved thus far even after the lapse of over 13 months.

Bandara explained the strike action will be launched based on three demands; the amendment and approval of the Cabinet paper; the abolishment of the program underway to curb the rights of the postal employees; and the leadership of the government to modernize the postal department.

He remarked postal employees will launch the strike action from 4pm today at the Colombo Central Mail Exchange and continue until 4pm on the 18th of July for 48 hours.
