Basil comes up with mobile App for election: Names it V Can

The founder of the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna (SLPP) Basil Rajapaksa has planned a survey to be carried out on August 3 and 4 using a special mobile app to obtain the people’s views regarding the presidential election.
It was we who revealed initially that the SLPP is planning on placing greater focus on new media and plan to carry out the majority of their election campaign through new media.
The national campaign known as e-canvassing will be launched and the mobile app is named V Can.
The e-canvassing programme commenced on July 01st.
During the operation the SLPP survey officers will use their mobile phones and through GPS and GPRS they will conduct the survey.
These officers will visit every household in the country, including the North and East and gather information on the householders and their views on the current government and immediately upload this information onto the V Can App.
It is also reported that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had used this technology and conducted his election campaign.
During the survey, the voters’ details, information regarding those without IDs, those overseas and details of those who are deceased would be gathered. In addition, they will gather the thoughts of the people on whether they are content and happy and this information would be uploaded onto the App instantly.
