Beware of scammers who offer to help obtain loan under Enterprise Sri Lanka

The Ministry of Finance has urged the public to take precautions over fake letters with the letterhead of the Finance Ministry stating that their loan requests under the Enterprise Sri Lanka scheme have been approved.

Issuing a statement, the Ministry noted that these letters have been sent to some loan applicants requesting them to pay a certain percentage of the loan in order to release the full amount.

“...the Finance Ministry neither releases loans nor make recommendations for any expectants,” the statement emphasised adding that the Ministry only registers loan applications, that too without imposing a fee.

The Ministry also requested the public to negotiate with their respective commercial banks over this matter since loans under the Enterprise Sri Lanka concessionary loan scheme are granted by state and private commercial banks alone.

Any individual who receives a fake letter has also been urged to report the incident to the nearest police station.

The Finance Ministry said it has gathered evidence of fraudulent letters sent under the names of Jayampathi Karunamuni, posing as the Director of the Clearance Unit of Loans of the Development Finance Department at the Finance Ministry and another individual posing as Chandra Jayasinghe.
