Mastermind in Kohuwala killing ‘Babi’ escapes to Dubai

Intelligence reports have revealed that the mastermind in the shooting of two businessmen in Kohuwwla, identified as ‘Babi’ which killed one of the businessmen, has fled to Dubai and is in hiding.

He is said to be in hiding under the protection of another underworld kingpin in the south.

The police said that the southern underworld figure has also been identified.

The assailants had purchased a motorcycle for Rs. 40,000 to be used in the killing on July 26th, investigations have revealed.

Babi had staged an act as if he was leaving the country on the 26th and had not gone home either. On the 28th after the shooting, he had reserved an air ticket and had flown to Dubai that night.

It is believed that business rivalry had been one of the motives for the killing.

Babi is a notorious criminal and had been in police custody on numerous occasions.

Suspect arrested in Mirihana

A suspect involved in the shooting was taken into custody by the officers of the Mirihana Crimes Division officers.

The 39-year-old suspect is said to be a resident of Gangodawila area in Nugegoda.

Further interrogations into the suspect have led the police to find two face coverings used by the gunmen.

The businessman who was traveling in a luxury vehicle was shot and killed in the Jambugasmulla Junction area on July 28th.

Another person who was injured in the shooting is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.

The suspect is to be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court today (31)

The Kohuwala Police is conducting further investigations.
