PC & Presidential polls not on same day

The Elections Commission says attention has not been directed to holding the Provincial Council Election and the Presidential Election on the same day.

Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya when contacted by NewsRadio said such a proposal has been put forth to the Elections Commission.

Deshapriya said a discussion is due to be held between all election monitors in the coming week.

Election monitoring body the People’s Action for a Free and Fair Election in a letter to the President, Prime Minister and the Speaker of House noted that holding the Provincial Council and Presidential Elections on the same day would save the government Rs.20 billion
