Six arrested for protesting over admission of suspected coronavirus patient
Six persons were arrested in Batticaloa for attempting to prevent the admission of patient suspected to be affected with coronavirus to the Batticaloa hospital, Police said.
The 44 year old patient who had been first admitted to the Kalawanchchikudy hospital with high temperature was transferred to the Batticaloa hospital where they held a protest. Police intervened and got the patient admitted to hospital’s special unit while six youth who protested outside were arrested and taken away.
The patient had initially been working at a construction site in Colombo and got himself admitted to the Colombo hospital after he fell ill, but had escaped from hospital and got back to his village where he fell ill again. Hospital authorities had called the police when about 100 persons gathered outside the hospital to arrest.
