permission given by Govt. to import Regen-Cov for COVID-19 prevention

The Government has granted approval to import an antibody cocktail designed to produce resistance against COVID-19.

State Minister Professor Channa Jayasumana said permission has been granted for the respective company to import REGEN-COV.

Last week (28), Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa had also requested the Government to consider the procurement of two medicines used to treat mild to moderate patients who are at risk of progressing to severe health conditions due to COVID -19.

“US FDA has authorized the emergency use of Monoclonal anti-bodies casirivimab and imdevimab (REGEN-COV) for mild to moderate patients who are at risk of progressing to severe COVID. My friends in the USA tell me that this is considered a wonder medicine that has saved the lives of many by preventing the worsening of the illness.” the Opposition Leader had tweeted.

MP Premadasa had urged the Government to obtain the opinion of relevant experts and purchase the life saving drug.
