CEMENT & STEEL PRICES WENT UP

The National Construction Association of Sri Lanka (NCASL) states that there is a dearth of construction material due to prevailing import restrictions.Chairman of the NCASL - Susantha Liyanarachchi says that much of the building material is imported.

 If the situation prevails, it could have a serious impact on new construction projects, he had said.

 He says that around 1.6 million persons are employed in the local construction industry who will be directly affected if the industry is compelled to come to a standstill in the wake of the present situation.

 However, Trade Minister - Dr. Bandula Gunawardena has stated that only essential commodities will be imported in view of the country's prevailing economic situation.

 Cement, steel prices upped!

 Meanwhile, cement prices have been increased by Rs. 30 even without the awareness of the Consumer Affairs Authority. Also, it is said that the price of steel too, has gone up by twofold.
