Plan to build luxury Hotel in Welikade Prison premises

The Urban Development Authority has allocated the Welikada prison chapel ward and prison headquarters building for a luxury hotel project.

This was revealed during a discussion held at Temple Trees with the participation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The Government had earlier announced that the Welikada prison complex will be moved to a 200 acres land in Millewa, Horana by 2024 at a cost of Rs 30 billion.

Once the move is completed, 35 acres of land out of 40 acres in the Welikada Prison premises in Borella will be set aside for investments, the PM’s office said in a statement.
