Sugar imports permitted again in SriLanka

It is reported that the Commissioner General of Essential Services, Major General Senarath Nivunhella says that permission has been granted to import sugar in the future.

The Government suspended the import of sugar a few months ago and set a control price for sugar.

The Commissioner-General of Essential Services said that the Minister of Finance had instructed the officials to take necessary steps to import sugar in the near future.

Meanwhile, the current stocks of sugar in the country will be sufficient for about another two and a half months, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, State Minister of Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs has mentioned.
