The truth that more dollars spent on whisky overseas revealed by Customs officer

A senior Sri Lanka Customs Department official has pointed out that if the Government is seeking to retain US dollars in the country to help import essential goods, measures should be taken to prevent the money leaving the country through the airports.

A Sri Lankan air passenger is permitted to carry up to US$ 10,000 and 99% make use of this opportunity, he added.

The official further went on to state that most travellers bring Whiskey with the dollars that they take out of the country, and that this has been routinely observed.

He pointed out that though private banks state that only US$ 1000 is been given to travellers, most businessmen use money changers and other means to obtain dollars at a higher cost and take them out of the country.
