4 suspects in Beruwala heroin bust surrender

Four more suspects in connection to the discovery of 231kg of heroin in seas off Beruwala have surrendered before Court.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne ordered the suspects to be remanded till the 25th of January.

Meanwhile four other suspects including the chief suspect in connection to the incident remain further remanded.

Accordingly eight suspects with regards to the case have been arrested so far.

The stock of heroin is valued at more than Rs.2.7 billion.

Police arrested two suspects initially with the stock of heroin on the 6th of December.

Upon investigations Police later arrested the chief suspect in connection to the smuggling of the drugs, who is also the owner of the trawler that was used in transporting the heroin.
