‘Govt. has failed to control fall army worm’

United People’s Freedom Alliance Parliamentarian Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene says the government has failed in controlling the fall army worm that is threatening corn harvests.

Speaking at a media briefing the MP said the government should therefore step down.

The Parliamentarian noted the previous government increased the production of corn in the country to export level adding certain traders carried out a major plot to destroy the cultivation of corn completely.

MP Abeywardene stressed accordingly through the seeds, fall army worms were instilled in the country.

The Parliamentarian claimed the corn is then purchased at Rs.7.50 and transported to Hatton as animal food.

He said therefore within another two weeks insects will ruin the crop in Nuwara-Eliya adding if the fall army worms start to infect tea cultivation the harm will be unpreventable.
