Can’t take Sri Lanka lightly- Jon Holland
Victorian spinner Jon Holland says a bounce back against Sri Lanka cannot be taken for granted, after Australia’s recent experience against India.
Holland gave a charitable assessment of the tourists despite the Cricket Australia XI dominating their three-day pink-ball tour match at Hobart’s Bellerive Oval.
The contest ended in a draw yesterday, after Sri Lanka looked capable of losing after slumping to 4-39 in pursuit of 365.
However, they reached the close of 6-131 without needing assistance from Captain Dinesh Chandimal. Holland took 4-28 in Sri Lanka’s second innings to lead the attack. No Sri Lankan batsmen compiled a half-century, with opener Lahiru Thirimanne’s unbeaten 46 the highest individual score.
Holland doubted the non first-class match was an accurate indication of Sri Lanka’s chances in the two-Test series, which starts in Brisbane on Thursday.
He said, “The Sri Lankans didn’t really look to score too much. It seemed like they were just keen to bat against a pink ball under lights, it’ll be a different game for them at the Gabba under lights against a pink ball but they’re international players and they’ll prepare for it.”
