Country in darkness from December; Sri Lankan shuts down without fuel
Although there are promises to supply a fuel tanker to Sri Lanka by December 05, the country has no dollars to pay for it, said former JVP MP Sunil Handunneththi.
He said the Sapugaskanda refinery was closed not because of repairs but because of the lack of dollars to pay for crude oil.
The MP said that the suppliers are not bidding at present due to the lack of dollars in the country.
He also points out that with the closure of Sapugaskanda, SriLankan Airlines will be shut down due to the suspension of jet fuel.
He said the Norochcholai power plant would run out of coal by the end of December and the people of the country would be left in the dark.
He expressed these views at a media briefing held at the JVP Party Headquarters in Pelawatte.
