Mahaweli development Board to confiscate 1900 acres of Tamil agricultural land in Mullaitivu!
An action has been taken to confiscate 1900 acres of people’s agricultural land under Mahaweli project and to give them to investors in part by part.
In 1970, in the area, Sooriyanaru river side 1900 acres of land divided and given to Sinhalese families to give them 10 acre per a family. Thereby 190 families received lands due to the project and given remittances too.
In the postwar environment, in and under Weli Oya D.S. division a village was formed by the name of “Galambawewa”. For the purpose of forming this village, in the remaining part of Sooriyanaru area the lands belong to Tamils were confiscated and changed to this name.
