Countries ruled by soldiers have never developed - Former Army Commander

"Nowhere in the world has a soldier-led society developed," said former Army Commander General Daya Ratnayake.

General Daya Ratnayake is currently serving as a Secretary to a Ministry.

He noted that wars were caused due to the failure of the scholars in society to function as forerunners.

He said this during a recent function. 

"There is much that soldiers can do, but being the forerunner of a society is not among them,” he further stated.

"High society, academic society and the intellectual society need to connect and be the society’s frontrunners. It is when that does not happen that the soldier takes over as the forerunners and leads to war. Countries ruled by soldiers where there is military rule, have never developed. There are other things that they can do, but not this.”
