Sakurai plane engine malfunctioned due to mixed fuel?
The Cessna 172 light aircraft belonging to Sakurai Aviation Limited has been rumored in the aviation industry to have had an engine failure due to the use of mixed fuel, that caused it to make an abrupt landing.
It is reported that these aircraft use low-lead fuels and many airlines in the country mix fuels during the preparation.
Experts in the field say that the most common causes of technical failures in aircraft are fuel filter faults, air filter faults and preventive maintenance.
The aircraft involved in the accident was registered with the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka as 4AG-172.
The pilots of the aircraft have requested permission to make an emergency landing at the Katunayake Airport due to a technical fault in the engine of the aircraft while on a domestic flight from Sigiriya to Koggala.
The plane was about to land at the Katunayake Airport when it made an emergency landing at the Kimbulapitiya 6th pillar area before reaching the airport.
The plane was severely damaged during the landing and the plane, which had travelled a short distance in the paddy field after landing, had come to a stop after getting stuck between a road and a lamp post.
A Lebanese couple and two Sri Lankans were on board at the time of the accident.
The Lebanese couple are said to have come here to spend their honeymoon after their wedding.
The couple are Wasim Moukkal (40) and Maria Moushal (29).
The injured pilots Ruwanpathirana (31) a resident of Bandarawela and Samasha Abeynayake (27), a resident of Thalawathugoda were admitted to the Negombo Hospital after the incident.
