Rs. 96 Mn. from Environment Ministry goes missing
Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed top officials of the Ministry of Environment to conduct a full investigation into the disappearance of Rs. 96 million remaining at the end of a foreign funded project.
The one-year project was completed about three months ago.
Although the project officials said that the remaining Rs. 96 million was spent on a publicity campaign, it was revealed at a progress review meeting held at the Ministry of Environment that no such publicity campaign had taken place.
The Minister has instructed the officials involved in the project to immediately apologize and conduct an investigation into the missing money.
