Lawyer seeks parliamentary approval to commit suicide over debts!
A lawyer named B.A.W. Abeywardena in a letter to all Members of Parliament, including the President and the Speaker, has sought parliamentary permission to commit suicide.
He says he decided to commit suicide because he would not be able to pay back for the education he received from the tax payers’ money in the event he is removed from the Land Reforms Commission where he works.
It is reported that this letter has been sent to the Speaker of Parliament and all Members of Parliament recently under the headline 'Seeking Parliament's Approval for Suicide over inability to pay back debt'.
The letter further states that he had received free education from primary to A/L education, his university education at Peradeniya, Colombo and abroad with the taxpayers money and that he is heavily indebted to the tax paying public.
