Printed money pumped into election; That’s the reason for not seeking IMF assistance!
Samagi Janabalawegaya Member of Parliament Dr. Harsha de Silva, has accused the government of printing large sums of money and preparing to pump it into the election campaign project.
That is why the current government is so reluctant to go to the International Monetary Fund to resolve the debt and exchange crisis, he said.
"Sri Lanka is currently facing a huge debt and exchange crisis and if these issues are not addressed with due discipline, the future of the entire nation will be bleak," he said.
“The Minister of Finance expressed the view that advice has been sought from the International Monetary Fund to resolve this exchange crisis. Then the Governor of the Central Bank says that this is only a technical assistance provided on a regular basis. He says that support is given to the newly established Macroeconomic and Fiscal Unit of the Ministry of Finance. This means that this government is reluctant to go to the IMF to manage this crisis in a manner that is beneficial to the future of the country.
Why are they so reluctant? Even now this government is running on printed money. Food inflation was 25 percent in January. The easiest thing to do when there are mass protests is to print and distribute money. This cannot be done if they go to the IMF. The IMF will definitely say do not destroy the country by printing money in this manner. That is why this government is not going to the IMF. These people don’t care if the country is destroyed, they are printing money with the hope of funding the election campaign out of their greed for power. They are hoping to print money and pump it into the election campaign hoping to win elections. This is the reason they are reluctant to seek the assistance of the IMF.”
