Dengue enters critical stage!

With the rapid increase in the number of dengue patients, the Epidemiology Unit has identified 60 Medical Officers of Health Divisions as High Risk Areas.

The unit states that the number of patients has increased in 08 of them.

Kaduwela, Kesbewa, Negombo, Kalutara, Wadduwa, Chavakachcheri, Karaveddi, Trincomalee, Arachchikattuwa, Chilaw, Badulla, Elapatha and Ratnapura are heading the list of high risk areas.

The number of dengue patients has increased to 8649 in several districts including the Western Province as at the 13th of this month.

The highest number of dengue patients were reported from Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara districts at 2,166, 1,550 and 701 respectively, said Dr. Sudath Samaraweera, Chief Specialist of the Epidemiology Unit.

The highest number of dengue patients were reported from Puttalam district with 546, Kurunegala with 534, Galle with 454 and Kandy with 407 while 2,291 patients were found from other districts.
