Report called on camera in Gampaha tuition class toilet!
Gampaha Magistrate Manjula Karunaratne yesterday (21) ordered the Government Analyst's Department to submit a report regarding a device suspected to be a camera found in a women's toilet at the Sithusara Private Educational Institution in Gampaha.
Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered that a detailed report be submitted to the Government Analyst's Department as to whether photographs or videotapes could be made using the device, and whether the footage recorded therein could be manipulated by an external device or stored.
Gampaha Police have seized a round LED CCTV camera with a red LED bulb, a one and a half inch long cable and a power bank from the women's toilet of a private educational institution called "Sithusara" in Gampaha. He requested that the equipment be referred to the Government Analyst.
The Government Analyst's Department was further directed by the court to submit the report to the Gampaha Magistrate's Court expeditiously on what the device is that has been presented to the court as a case item? What functions can it perform? Whether the device locally made or imported?
The court asked the police if it had been revealed who had installed the camera in the women’s toilet.
However, the police told the court that so far it had not been revealed who had installed the camera.
The court ruled that if the toilet on which the incident took place was located on the premises of the private educational institution, the governing body should be held liable and ordered the police to immediately investigate the incident and arrest those responsible.
The police told the court that statements had been obtained from children, staff and parents of the private educational institution, as well as a number of teachers, including the administration.
The complaint was lodged by Mrs. Priyadarshani Senaratne, Women Inspector, Case Operations Division, Gampaha Police Station.
The case is set to be taken up again on March 28.
