Sumanthiran’s view contradicts TNA’s – Adaikkalanathan

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran holds different ideologies and is trying to walk a different path, claimed MP Selvam Adaikkalanathan. Expressing his views to an Indian Media institution, Adaikkalanathan has claimed that Sumanthiran has misinterpreted the aspirations of the TNA. He has further claimed that the federal system of governance that Sumanthiran proposes for the Northern Province is not the idea of the TNA.

On several occasions during this week, Sumanthiran who is the spokesperson of the TNA has expressed contradictory views to the media not in keeping with the Party line Adaikkalanathan alleged. He has also said the TNA is a political party and not an individual organization, and therefore, TNA MPs will be humiliated in the eyes of the public due to Sumanthiran’s statements. If Sumanthiran continues to issue irresponsible statements, Adaikkalanthan said the TNA would not go on their journey together with him anymore.

Earlier, at a press briefing, Sumanthiran allegedly said many TNA MPs would not contest elections, once a solution to the Tamil problem is given by merging the Northern and the Eastern Provinces. Sumanthiran has allegedly also said no TNA member will contest in the Provincial Council Election.

He has also stated that the Government has sought the TNA’ viewpoint to give a long-term solution to the Tamil problem and that the TNA was reported to have said that the Northern and Eastern Provinces should be merged via a new amendment to the Constitution, as a political solution to the national question. On the same occasion, Sumanthiran has allegedly said the TNA wants to merge two Provinces through a new Constitutional amendment and to make that State a Unitary State.
