Low pressure area likely to develop into deep depression

 The low pressure area over south-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified to a Depression and located near (5.3N, 84.0E) at 05.30 a.m. today (03), 470 km to the south-east of Trincomalee coast.

This particular low pressure area is very likely to intensify into a deep depression during next 24 hours and expected to move northwestwards along and off east coast of Sri Lanka towards north Tamil Nadu coast during next 48 hours.

Under the influence of aforementioned system, deep and shallow sea areas off Northern, North-Eastern, Eastern and South-Eastern coasts will be very rough with intermittent showers or thundershowers and gusty winds up to (60-70) kmph during next 48 hours.

Wind speed can increase up to (50-60) kmph at times over sea area extending from Kankasanturai to Puttalam via Mannar
