Entire hospital network will collapse this week!

The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) warns that the entire hospital system is in danger of collapsing this week as there is an acute shortage of medicines in all hospitals island wide, including medicines needed to save the lives of patients.

Dr. Senal Fernando, Secretary of the Government Medical Officers' Association, said that the situation was worse than the Covid epidemic and that there was a risk of an unexpected increase in the number of deaths due to the lack of essential medicines in hospitals.

He pointed out that although the health service has been gazetted as an essential service, it is a crime that this essential service lacks essential medicines, adding that it is even impossible to contact the Health Secretary even on the phone to discuss and find solutions to address this issue.

Dr. Fernando said that the failure of the government and the Ministry of Health to manage the health system was due to the lack of proper management and due diligence.

He noted that the situation was exacerbated by a fuel shortage in the midst of a drug shortage, which has made it difficult to even operate ambulances as well as get health staff.
