Srilanka's justice - Policeman who arrested State Minister's brother, transferred

The Sub Inspector of the Arachchikattuwa police who had taken measures to arrest  Jagath Samantha, the brother of state minister Sanath Nishantha, has been transferred to the Marawila Police Station with immediate effect from yesterday (29) morning.

According to sources, the transfer has taken place after the police officer had reported to court in a manner that would ruin all chances of bail for Jagath Samantha, who is also a Arachchikattuwa Pradeshiya Sabha member.

Jagath Samantha was arrested on April 22 over causing damages to the houses of JVP Chilaw organiser - Ajith Gihan as well as that of several activists of the National People's Power. He had also assaulted several persons, and one such person had even needed 10 stitches to his head. Several vehicles too, had been damaged.

SP Lalith Rohana who is in charge of the Chilaw division, had appointed a special team to Jagath Samantha.

He was arrested after absconding the police for 19 days, after police received a tipoff that the suspect was at a shrimp farm belonging to him.

Jagath Samantha had attempted to flee by jumping into the lagoon and after that failed had tried to unleash political might, a police officer had later revealed to media.
