Sri Lanka’s health sector warns that there is a rise in the number of children contracting fever, cold, cough, and pneumonia.
Dr.Deepal Perera, a Consultant Paediatrician at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children speaking to News 1st said there is also a rise in the number of children with breathing difficulties.
He said as classes started for Grade 01 students last week, the children who had not stepped out for about 02-years are now exposed to the environment adding that their immunity against viral flu is not well developed.
He said this means a minor cold could rapidly spread among children.
Dr. Deepal Perera urged parents to avoid sending children to school if they show symptoms such as fever, cold, and cough, as they could be infected with Influenza, other viral fevers, and even COVID-19.
