Sabry is the night watchman of Watergate, not of cricket team - Ranil
Making a special statement in Parliament today (04), Finance minister - Ali Sabry said that his job is similar to that of a night watchman of a cricket team.
"I am doing the job of a night watchman who comes from the back and protects the front lines. I am not an economist. If there is an economist, please come and accept this," he said.
However, speaking later, former PM - Ranil Wickremesinghe said that Sabry was not the night watchman of a cricket team but the night watchman of Watergate.
He was referring to the events that kicked off the infamous Watergate scandal, after security guard - Frank Ellis immediately alerted the police after observing several tampered locks at the Watergate Office Building. Soon after, the police made five arrests and the events led to the scandal which forced the then US President - Richard Nixon to resign.
"We don't know whether you are going to do the same thing. However, you have done your work as the night watchman," Wickremesinghe further said.
