Fifteen billion printed over 20 days!
During the brief period since the new Governor of the Central Bank Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe assumed duties on the 08th of April to the 29th of April, the Central Bank had printed nearly Rs. 15 billion (Rs. 14900 million), official statistics show.
The daily average is around Rs. 1.14 billion.
The highest amount of money ever printed by the Central Bank during this period was recorded on April 19.
Under the previous administration of former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal, 432.7 billion rupees (432700 million rupees) were printed during the period from January 1 to April 7, 2022 alone and its daily average was 4.5 billion rupees.
Accordingly, the total amount of net money printed by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka during the four months from 1st January to 29th April 2022 was Rs. 447.6 billion. (Rs. 447600 million). It is estimated that 4.61 billion rupees were printed daily during that period.
