2 including SLPP MP die in Nittambuwa incident

Three people were rushed to hospital following a shooting incident in Nittambuwa on Monday (9) afternoon.

06 persons in total had been admitted to the Wathupitiwala Hospital and hospital sources say that a 27-year old has died.

Meanwhile, AFP reports that SLPP MP - Amarakeerthi Athukorala has also died during the clash.

The AFP has quoted the police as saying that MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala opened fire and critically wounded two people blocking his car in Nittambuwa, and was later found dead after trying to take refuge in a nearby building.

Unconfirmed reports claim that he had shot himself.

Houses of SLPP MPs attacked

Meanwhile, reports say that houses of several SLPP MPs including Nimal Lanza, Sanath Nishantha and Johnston Fernando have been torched.

Reports say that the houses of Kurunegala Mayor and the Moratuwa Mayor, who are staunch SLPP supporters, have also been mobbed.

Chaotic scenes at Colombo Hospital

Meanwhile, chaotic scenes have been reported at the Colombo National Hospital after injured SLPP members had been brought in for treatment.

SLPP protesters pushed into Beira Lake

Earlier in the evening, protesters backing Mahinda Rajapaksa, who had unleashed violence at the protest sites - GotaGoGama and MynaGoGama, were pushed into the Beira lake.
