Decisive judicial verdict against Basil today !
The Gampaha High Court is expected to give a verdict today (13) on whether the case filed by the Attorney General against former Minister Basil Rajapaksa would continue or not on three indictments alleging that he bought 16 acres of land in the Mapitigama area in Malwana, Dompe, built a huge house, a swimming pool and ran a farm and misused government funds.
When the case was taken up before High Court Judge Nimal Ranaweera on March 25, the first witness, Upul Kumara Ramawickrama (the contractor who built the house) had said that he had not called the Financial Crimes Investigation Division and testified and that the signature on the complaint is not his.
Deputy Solicitor General Shanil Kularatne, who is prosecuting the case, told the High Court that there would be no further hearings in the case against Basil Rajapaksa and Thirukumaran Nadesan based on what was said by the witness.
The President's counsel appearing for the suspects asked the High Court to acquit his clients of the charges as the case was closed without further evidence.
