New Cabinet only for a certain period: Akila
The newly-appointed Cabinet of Ministers will be appointed according to current necessities, and will only be a Cabinet appointed to build the country for a certain period of time, says the Deputy Leader of the United National Party, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.
Speaking to media at UNP party headquarters, Sirikotha today (13), the UNP Deputy Leader stated that the new Cabinet will also not go forth with outdated systems of governance where the cabinet ministers are given privileges.
He pointed out that the Cabinet will comprise of representatives of many parties, and put forth a mechanism approved by the people after much discussion.
“We are hoping to move forward with a proper program which involves everyone in Parliament. Many parties will be represented in the Cabinet,” he mentioned.
However, several other parties such as the SJB, NPP, SLFP and the group of 10 political parties have refused to assist the Government under the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Kariyawasam, however, went onto say that majority support within Parliament can be assured, and added that Leaders who have the necessity of solving the current issue will come together to solve the issues of the people.
Upon inquiry whether these leaders involve the former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa, former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa or the President, Kariyawasam said that they will not be involved in this process.
