Danger of Intensive Care Units closing down due to lack of ventilators !
A serious crisis has arisen in all the hospitals in the country due to the non-availability of essential ventilators and other equipment which are essential for maintaining the Intensive Care (ICU) and high-dependency care units (HDUs).
As a result, patients depending on ventilators and blood transfusion equipment are at high risk as these units are unable to provide the care needed.
The Health Ministry has failed to settle the bills due to the suppliers of over 300 million over the past four months and these suppliers have notified that they would not be able to meet further orders.
However, despite the new Prime Minister appointing Ruwan Wijewardena to look into the issues faced by hospitals and to find solutions to rectify these issues, the Health Professionals Union claims that not a single discussion has been held so far with the relevant parties
