2 gas ships will be paid tomorrow - Litro Chairman

A payment of $ 7 million is expected to be paid for two liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) ships next Monday, Engineer Vijitha Herath, Chairman, Litro Gas Company said.

After the two ships are unloaded, the gas consignment sufficient for two weeks will be available in the country, the Chairman said.

Herath said Litro Gas currently has enough gas for six days and will supply 80,000 cylinders to the market from today.

He said that out of the 80,000 cylinders, 50,000 would be supplied to the Colombo and Gampaha districts as the parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has instructed and the remaining 30,000 cylinders would be distributed to other areas.

However, Litro Chairman Vijitha Herath says that the number of gas cylinders released to the market today will be reduced. Accordingly, 60,540 12.5- kg cylinders are expected to be released to the market today.

Yesterday 79,004 12.5-kg gas cylinders were released to the market Litro Chairman said adding that domestic Gas is not normally issued by Litro on Sundays.

However, due to the shortage of gas, it was decided to release the gas to the market today as well, he said.

Accordingly, 10,450 each 2.5-kg as well as 5-kg cylinders will be released today. Also 2,673 37.5-kg gas cylinders will also be released to the market today.

Yesterday Litro has issued 12,728 2.5-kg gas cylinders, 12,044 5-kg gas cylinders and 3,256 37.5-kg cylinders to the market. Accordingly, the total gas capacity released to the market yesterday is 1,199 metric tons.
