Twenty extra marks for students sitting O/L!

It has been suggested that if the students who appear for the GCE Ordinary Level Examination this year get less than 45 marks for each subject due to serious injustices and disadvantages, 20 marks should be added to the answer scripts to settle the discrepancies.

This has been suggested by Kusal Perera, a senior journalist and political commentator, on his Facebook page.

However, he says that this advantage should be given to students from other schools apart from the 370 popular national schools.

He also alleges that no one who has been campaigning for free education for decades has known that all children should have the right to education with equal opportunities and equal facilities.

He pointed out that in the face of an uncertain future given the social and economic instability in 2020, 2021 and this year, the National Education Commission or the Ministry of Education had failed to come up with any clear or significant plan to complete the missed lessons over several semesters.

He alleges that the principals, teachers and their unions who were demanding higher salaries, did not come forward to point out when the required responsibilities were not fulfilled by the responsible authorities.
