Katchchatheevu : SL fishermen against Indian claims ! Is it the commission for Indian Govt.'s humanitarian help to SL ?

The Fisheries community of the North alleges that it would be a shame if India took advantage of the Sri Lankan economic crisis and tried to seize the Katchchatheevu Island.

While participating in a program to distribute Indian aid to fishermen, the former Leader of the Northern Fisheries Association, M.V. Subramaniam stated that they strongly condemn any attempt to politicize the aid by giving rice or kerosene to the fishermen.

Moreover, he called for the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Starlin to propose a solution towards the entire Indo-Sri Lanka fisheries issue, and not merely to seize Katchchatheevu.

India is providing assistance and credit facilities to alleviate the fuel crisis in Sri Lanka, and facilities are being provided to fishermen in the North with Indian assistance in the backdrop of a controversy regarding the Katchchatheevu island which was a key part of the Indo-Sri Lankan fisheries issue.

Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda and Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Jaffna Rakesh Nadaraj were also present at the event.
