Colombo schools closed for a week
All school in the Colombo city limits will be closed for a week, commencing this Monday (20).
This is due to the travelling difficulties brought on by the fuel shortage.
Education Ministry Secretary M. N. Ranasinghe stated that rural schools could remain open at the discretion of the respective school's principal.
Schools in urban areas will be instructed to conduct lessons online.
As such, a request to prevent power cuts during daytime has been made to the Public Utilities Commission, he added.
A decision regarding education activities for the following week will be taken at a meeting of education officials, next Saturday (25).
