Soldier falls to his death while repairing Kamal Gunaratne's house

A soldier engaged in repairs of Defence secretary - Kamal Gunaratne's house in Kottawa, has died after falling from the roof, it was revealed before the City coroner.

The victim has been identified as an army soldier of the SLA Engineering corps named N.K. Chaminda Premadasa (40). He was a father of two.

According to witnesses testifying before the coroner, it was learnt that the victim was engaged in repairs on the roof of the Defence secretary's house at Bogahawatta Road, Kottawa, Pannipitiya. He and another were working on scaffolding when it had started to rain. The victim had fallen from the scaffolding while attempting to climb down and was rushed to the Homagama hospital. He was later transferred to the Colombo National Hospital.

Deeming that the death had occurred due to falling from the scaffolding, City Coroner Ashroff Rumi ordered to hand over the victim's remains to his family.
